How I Write Your Ceremony
Your ceremony isn't pulled from a template. Here's exactly how my process works:
Step 1: You fill out my questionnaire After booking, I send you guided questions about your relationship: how you met, your first date, the proposal, inside jokes, what you love about each other, and what matters most for your ceremony day. The questions make it easy to share your story even if you're not sure where to start.
Step 2: I write your ceremony from scratch Using your answers, I craft a ceremony that could only work for you and your unique love story. I weave in the moments, phrases, and details that make your relationship special.
Step 3: You review and we revise I send you the draft. You tell me what to change. We go back and forth until every word feels right. Unlimited revisions are included because your ceremony should feel perfect.
Step 4: Wedding day I arrive knowing your story by heart. Your guests will ask how long we've known each other. The answer is usually "we met on Zoom three months ago."
The difference: Most officiants read a script they've used hundreds of times. I write a ceremony I've never performed before and will never perform again. It's yours.
Who Books the Signature Ceremony
I've written and performed 300+ personalized ceremonies since 2015. The Signature Ceremony is perfect for:
- Couples who want their ceremony to sound like them - not a template pulled from Google
- Anyone who's sat through a boring wedding and thought "I want something better"
- Interfaith or multicultural couples - I've blended Catholic & Evangelical, Taiwanese & Southern, Wiccan & Pagan, and many other combinations
- Couples with unique stories - how you met, what you've overcome, why you work
- Destination weddings - I've officiated all over the USA including NYC, Malibu, and Disney World

If your guests to say "that was the best ceremony I've ever seen," this is for you.
What Couples Say
"Many of our guests asked if Schwa was a friend of my son's. I told them that I found him on the internet! They were shocked! Even the flower vendor told me he teared up listening to the ceremony from the back." - Carolyn Schuman, Mother of the Groom
"Multiple people asked us how long we had known Schwa, which is a true testament to how thorough he was when gathering information about us and our story. The whole process was easy and care-free. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding officiant!" - Connor Carpenter
"Schwa's ability to customize the ceremony to reflect our relationship and personalities made our special day completely unforgettable. What stood out most was how he tailored every element to fit us as a couple. He took the time to understand our story and what mattered to us, then crafted a ceremony that felt authentic and personal rather than generic." - Amera Schaefer

Questions? Let's Talk.
Make It Yours
Religious, Spiritual, or Nonreligious
Your ceremony, your beliefs. I'm comfortable incorporating prayers, blessings, scripture readings, or spiritual elements from any tradition. Or keep it completely secular. Your call.
Unity Ceremonies
Add a symbolic ritual to your ceremony:
- Sand ceremony
- Candle lighting
- Handfasting (Celtic hand-tying)
- Ring warming
- Or create something completely unique to you

Cultural Traditions
I love blending traditions from different backgrounds. Whether you're honoring one culture or weaving together two (or more), I'll help you design something meaningful that respects both families and reflects your unique bond.
Custom Vows
Write your own vows, and I'll help you structure them. Or tell me what you want to say and I'll help you put it into words. Either way, your promises will sound like you.
Destination Weddings
The Signature Ceremony travels. I've officiated weddings in:
- Kentucky
- New York City
- Malibu, California
- Nahant, Massachusetts
- Nashville, Tennessee
- Disney World, Florida
- Vermont
- San Francisco, California

If you're planning a destination wedding, I'm happy to be there. Travel fees apply based on distance.
Signature Ceremony FAQ
How long does the ceremony writing process take?
Plan for 4-6 weeks from questionnaires to final script. If you're on a tighter timeline, let me know and we can make it work.
What if we don't know what we want?
That's what the questionnaires are for. I ask the right questions to draw out your story and preferences. By the time I write the first draft, you'll see your relationship reflected back in a way that feels right.
Can we include family members in the ceremony?
Absolutely. Readings, blessings, unity ceremony participation, ring presentations, family vows, walking you down the aisle choreography. I love finding meaningful ways to include the people who matter to you.
What if we want to blend two religions?
This is one of my favorite things to do. I'll work with you to honor both traditions in a way that feels authentic and respectful. Whether it's Jewish and Catholic, Hindu and Christian, or any other combination, we'll create something meaningful.
Do you attend the rehearsal?
Rehearsal attendance is available for +$150 (plus travel fee if over 30 miles). We walk through ceremony timing, positioning, and make sure everyone knows exactly what to do. I highly recommend it for larger weddings.
What happens if something goes wrong on wedding day?
In 300+ ceremonies since 2015, I've never missed a wedding. Your ceremony is my priority. With 30+ years of stage experience, I'm calm under pressure. Rain, mic issues, nervous family members, I've handled it all.
Need Something Simpler?
The Signature Ceremony is fully customized and takes 15-25 minutes. If you're looking for something short & sweet, the Quickie Ceremony might be a better fit.
