Milwaukee Courthouse Stopped Doing Weddings. Here's a Better Option.
Milwaukee County Courthouse hasn't performed wedding ceremonies since 2020, and there's no plan to bring them back. If you were counting on a simple courthouse wedding, you're dealing with the same frustration hundreds of Milwaukee couples face every month.
The alternative everyone's using? Driving to Waukesha County Courthouse, booking weeks out, and making the 30-45 minute trip.
Or you could just get married here in Milwaukee with a Quickie Ceremony.
[Book Your Quickie Ceremony]
What's a Quickie Ceremony?
It's exactly what the courthouse used to offer — a short, simple ceremony that gets you legally married — but I come to you instead of making you drive somewhere.
Here's how it works:
5-minute prewritten ceremony
- Performed anywhere in Milwaukee (your home, a Wisconsin state park, wherever)
- I handle your marriage license signing and filing
- Non-religious, LGBTQ+ friendly
- Cost: $300
Same simplicity as the courthouse, but you choose the location and don't wait weeks for an appointment.
Why Choose a Quickie Over Driving to Waukesha Courthouse?
Get married somewhere that actually matters to you. The brewery where you had your first date. The bridge where you got engaged. Your backyard. A Wisconsin state park. Anywhere you want — I'll meet you there.
Contemporary, heartfelt ceremony. My script is warm and sweet, not the generic legal language you'd get from a judge.
Your schedule, not theirs. Weekday, weekend, morning, evening — if I'm available, I'm there. No waiting weeks for a courthouse appointment slot.
Personal guidance every step of the way. From getting your marriage license to filing it after the ceremony, I'll walk you through the whole process. You're not just a number in the system.
Who This Is For
You want a Quickie if you're:
Getting married for practical reasons (insurance, immigration, legal stuff)
- Marrying quickly for emergency or personal reasons
- Keeping it small — just you two or a few people
- Not interested in a big production
- I've performed 250+ weddings since Milwaukee Courthouse closed. Quickies are simple, fast, and drama-free.
How to Book
IMPORTANT: You need to book your officiant BEFORE applying for your marriage license. Wisconsin requires you to list your officiant's name on the license application, so secure your wedding date with me first.
1. Contact me at (414) 375-9838 or schwa@actingofficiant.com to check availability and book your date. If I'm available, you'll secure my services with a 50% non-refundable deposit ($150). The other half is due the day of your ceremony.
2. Get your marriage license appointment. You can apply at any county clerk in Wisconsin — Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, wherever gets you in fastest. Most counties can schedule you within a few days to a week. You'll need to apply together with ID and birth certificates. Free Wisconsin Marriage License Guide here.
3. Pick where you want to get married. I'll meet you there.
4. Done. 5-minute ceremony, sign the license with your two witnesses, I file it with the county. I'll send you instructions on how to order your official marriage certificate a few weeks later.
Questions?
How fast can we get married?
As soon as you can get a marriage license appointment (usually a few days to a week). There's a 4-day waiting period after you get your license, or you can usually pay a $25 fee to waive it.Do we need to write vows?
Nope. It's a prewritten script. You just show up.Can we do this in a park?
Yes. Wisconsin state parks allow small ceremonies without a permit. Milwaukee County parks require a permit even for elopements, so I recommend state parks for simplicity. What if we want something more personalized?
I also offer Signature ceremonies ($800) with fully customized scripts based on your story. Add rehearsal attendance for $150.Can we get our license in a different county than where we're getting married?
Yes! Wisconsin lets you get your license in any county and use it anywhere in the state. If Milwaukee County is booked out, try Ozaukee, Waukesha, or Washington County.Get Married This Week
